Pérez Casas Choir
concert
The Pérez Casas Choir was formed in the city of Lorca (Murcia, Spain) in 1981 and was named after the local composer and academic Bartolomé Pérez Casas, the first permanent Director of the Spanish National Orchestra and the author of the arrangements of the current Spanish National Anthem. The choir specialises in contemporary musical pieces incorporating well-known classics of 20th Century Spanish poetry from poets such as Antonio Machado, Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti or Miguel Hernández. They also have a selected repertoire of Spanish sacred music, ranging from 16th Century Spanish classics to popular Christmas carols. The interest of this Choir for the British public stems in the synergy generated by the combination of music and literature. This has been proven in the successful concerts offered in Spain and abroad, including the University of Vienna in 1998 and the cathedral of San Andrea de Subiaco, in the province of Rome in 2009.
